Sandbox Warriors The Adventurists Africa Rally 2008!

Introducing us: We are two work colleagues who were on a search for something outlandish to do. Stumbling upon the African Rally - It had to be the one!

Come July 18th 2008, we shall be pitting ourselves against the harsh climate, and terrain of Africa.

We are attempting to drive from Hyde Park in London, England, to Kribi in Cameroon, Africa in a 1 litre car.
We will have no backup or support of any kind other than that of the other teams attempting this feat with us.

No doubt we will encounter all types of problems (including a complete lack of mechanical knowledge on both our parts) but the idea of this is two fold:

1) To raise as much money as is humanly possible for our two charities: - Send A Cow and Frank Water.
2) To make a stand against the mundanity of everyday habitual modern day life and say, 'screw normality! Let's go crazy!'.

Please, please, PLEASE help us fund these sustainable aid projects.
Donate whatever you feel you can, however large or small to help us achieve our £1000 goal.

The Atlas Mountains and the convoy....

The road itself is really only wide enough for one car to pass along comfortably. It does consist of tarmac but its bumpy surface is chipped and swollen. Its sleight width stretches out to cracked edges sloping down to a sharp precipice on my right. On my left the cracked edge of the road borders a steep cliff face ready to pour itself onto the road without a moments notice. We must also take car to avoid the goats and people who cross our path. The landscape is fantastic. The mountains just continue to roll over each other the trees like scales sparkling in the sun as we wind round them from different angles. It is worth the dangers to see all of this.

At some point during the trip through the mountains, I had been contacted by Jessie of Team Sandbox Savants. They were in Agadir having repairs completed on their tent. They had been unfortunate to have it slashed open the night before and many of their items stolen including an iPod and laptop!

I had also been in touch with Tom and Steve in the Blue Nova. We also pass the Irish guys in Agadir. It culminates in us all meeting T2, Black Sheep and a couple of other cars from the Rally about 50kms outside of Agadir. We set up camp and, once again the safety of...[Read More]
